About Roast Local
The PNW has more independent coffee roasters per capita than anywhere in the country. Most people can't name more than three.
That's the problem we're fixing.
Roast Local is a discovery platform for independent coffee roasters in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. We map every roaster — from the big names in Portland and Seattle to the one-person operations in Baker City and Lopez Island — so that the people who care about good coffee can find the people who make it.
Why this exists
The Pacific Northwest has an extraordinary coffee culture. Not just the famous roasters, but hundreds of small, independent operations doing remarkable work in small towns, island communities, mountain valleys, and city neighborhoods.
The problem is discovery. Most of these roasters rely on word of mouth, farmers' markets, and the occasional Instagram post. There's no single place to find them all — no map that says "here are over 900 independent roasters across ten states and provinces, and here's what makes each one worth your time."
We built that map.
What we believe
Independent roasters are the backbone of PNW coffee culture. The chains have their place, but the character of this region's coffee comes from the independents — the people roasting 25 pounds at a time, sourcing directly from farms, and building businesses around quality over scale.
Discovery should be easy and free. Browsing, exploring, and saving roasters will always be free. Good coffee shouldn't be gatekept.
Roasters deserve better tools. Claiming a profile, understanding your audience, and getting found by new customers shouldn't require an enterprise marketing budget. We're building tools that work for a two-person roastery in Sandpoint just as well as a 50-person operation in Seattle.
Community makes it better. The collections, ratings, and favorites on Roast Local aren't algorithmic — they're shaped by real people who care about coffee. The more people who use the platform, the better it gets for everyone.
