These terms govern your use of the Roast Local website at roastlocal.com. By using the site, you agree to these terms.

The basics

Roast Local is a discovery platform for independent coffee roasters in the Pacific Northwest. We provide roaster profiles, curated collections, and tools for roasters to manage their listings.

You can browse the site without an account. Creating an account lets you save favorites, leave ratings, and (for roasters) claim and manage profiles.

Accounts

You're responsible for your account and the email address associated with it. We use magic link authentication — no passwords to manage, but keep your email secure.

One account per person. Don't share account access or create accounts for others.

For coffee lovers

  • Browse, search, and explore freely.
  • Favorites and ratings are tied to your account.
  • Don't abuse the rating system — ratings should reflect genuine experience.
  • Don't scrape, copy, or bulk-download roaster data from the platform.

For roasters

  • Claim only roasteries you own or are authorized to represent.
  • Keep your profile information accurate and up to date.
  • Profile content you provide (descriptions, photos, logos) must be yours or used with permission. You represent and warrant that you have the rights to all content you upload.
  • We may feature your roastery in collections and marketing materials. If you'd prefer not to be featured, let us know.
  • By uploading content, you grant Roast Local a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, reproduce, and distribute that content on the platform and in our marketing materials.

Content and data

  • Roaster profiles are created using publicly available information. Roasters can update or correct their profiles by claiming them.
  • User-generated content (ratings, favorites) remains associated with your account. We may display aggregate data (like average ratings) publicly.
  • We don't guarantee the accuracy of unclaimed roaster profiles. If something's wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.

Intellectual property

The Roast Local name, logo, design, and platform — including our roaster database, curated collections, original articles, and software — are the property of Roast Local LLC. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from our platform or content without our written permission.

Roaster profile data provided by roasters remains their property, subject to the license granted above.

Subscriptions and billing

Roasters can subscribe to paid plans (Pro and Premium) for enhanced features like analytics, search boost, and featured badges. Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually through Stripe.

  • You can cancel at any time from your dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.
  • We don't offer refunds for partial billing periods.
  • If a payment fails, we'll notify you by email and Stripe will retry automatically.
  • Free features (profile listing, basic discovery) remain available regardless of subscription status.
  • We reserve the right to change subscription pricing with 30 days' notice. Price changes do not affect existing subscriptions until their next renewal.

Paid features disclosure

Certain features on roaster profiles — such as the "Buy this coffee" button — are available to roasters on paid subscription plans. These are paid placements. Roast Local does not receive commissions on purchases made from roasters.

What's not allowed

  • Misrepresenting your identity or affiliation with a roastery.
  • Using the platform to spam, harass, or mislead.
  • Attempting to access other users' accounts or data.
  • Scraping or automated access beyond normal browsing.
  • Using the platform for anything illegal.
  • Circumventing any access controls, rate limits, or security measures.

Liability

Roast Local is provided "as is" and "as available." We do our best to keep the site running and the data accurate, but we don't guarantee uptime, accuracy, or completeness.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Roast Local's total liability to you for any claims arising from your use of the platform is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or business opportunities.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Roast Local LLC, its officers, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from: (a) your use of the platform, (b) content you upload or provide, (c) your violation of these terms, or (d) your violation of any third-party rights.

Dispute resolution

If a dispute arises, we'll try to resolve it informally first. Email us at hello@roastlocal.com and we'll work to find a solution within 30 days.

If we can't resolve it informally, any dispute will be resolved by binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, conducted in King County, Washington. Each party bears their own costs. You agree that any dispute resolution will be conducted on an individual basis, not as a class action.

Small claims court actions in King County, Washington are exempt from this arbitration requirement.

Governing law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any legal action not subject to arbitration will be brought in the courts of King County, Washington.

Changes

We may update these terms as the platform evolves. We'll post changes here and notify registered users of significant changes by email. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms.
