Under the Oak Tree Coffee Roasters has been roasting in Hardin County, Kentucky since 2013. Andrew and Gina run it themselves, and it is veteran-owned twice over: Andrew is a retired Army veteran of 21 years, with tours in Germany, Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo and the Dominican Republic, and Gina served as well. The range is built around showing people what coffee tastes like somewhere else. Colombia, Ethiopia and Papua New Guinea all sit on the shelf, and the Colombian link is a family one: Gina is from Colombia, and the two of them travel back every year. Orders ship anywhere in the United States, including APO and FPO addresses, which for a roastery run by a soldier of 21 years is not an afterthought. The business gives 5 percent of total sales to an anti-trafficking nonprofit. A small, family-run roastery that traces back to a cup of his dad's coffee on a camping trip.
