Café Pista is a Montreal specialty coffee roaster, founded in 2014 as the world's first pedal-powered mobile bike-café. The team sources traceable single-origin coffees directly from producers, roasts them in Montreal, and runs several neighbourhood cafés across the city.
Café Pista was born in 2014 out of a love for people, coffee, and cycling. Founder Maxime, then 20 years old, was captivated by a London bike-café powered entirely by human energy, where the coffee was ground by pedaling, and created what became the world's first human-powered mobile bike-café. In 2016 the team opened its first permanent café on rue Beaubien in Montreal, and in 2018 launched a line of roasted coffee bags so people could enjoy Pista at home. A second café followed on boulevard Saint-Laurent in 2019, and in 2020 a third location opened alongside a dedicated roasting space. Today, Café Pista works directly with farms and a few carefully chosen importers, returning to the same origins year after year to build lasting, stable relationships with producers. The team is committed to price transparency and traceability, paying producers well above commodity prices, roasting on a low-emission Loring roaster, and delivering by electric or carbon-neutral vehicles.
