Est. 2015

Storyteller is an independent bookstore and coffee shop on Broadway in Thermopolis, and Jackrabbit Java is the coffee roasted in house behind it. Ellen Reed had been selling coffee and gifts at the bookstore for six years before adding a roaster in 2015. The bookstore and cafe are hers; the roasting side is a family operation she co-owns with her son and roaster Jackson Reed and her son-in-law and roaster Payton Gonzalez. The lineup runs from single origins to signature blends, alongside a huckleberry-flavored coffee, a half caff and a French-roast Robusta, and the roastery has been reviewed by Coffee Review. All retail coffee is sold in 12 oz bags.
The coffee came out of the bookstore rather than the other way round. Ellen Reed had been selling coffee and gifts at Storyteller, on the main street of Thermopolis, for six years when she expanded into roasting in 2015. The roasting happens in the shop itself, and the two names have travelled together since: Storyteller for the books, Jackrabbit Java for the coffee. Storyteller is Ellen's. Jackrabbit Java is a family business, co-owned by Ellen with her son Jackson Reed and her son-in-law Payton Gonzalez, both of whom roast. The blends are named for the country around them - the Hopper, Cowboy Blend, Rise and Shine and a Midnight Blend French roast - and the roastery has picked up recognition well beyond a town of a few thousand people in the Bighorn Basin.
