About

Small batch specialty coffee roaster in Prather, California, in the Sierra foothills east of Fresno. Valley View Ranch sources coffees from independent farms and producers around the world, all scoring 85 points or higher on the SCA cupping scale, and roasts each one for the profile that makes that particular bean taste its best rather than forcing it into a light, medium or dark box. Coffees are organised by flavour instead of roast level: Berries and Floral, Nutty and Caramel Sugars, Chocolate and Nuts, Dark Roast, and a Reserve Line for unusual processes and origins. Sold online, roasted when orders come in, shipping across California.

Our Story

Valley View Ranch Coffee starts from a simple position: not every coffee should be roasted the same way. Each lot brings its own combination of origin, variety, elevation, processing method and density, and those characteristics change how it responds to heat. So the roast profiles are built around the coffee itself, looking for the point where sweetness, body, acidity and origin character come together. Some coffees shine when their fruit and floral side is preserved; others develop deeper chocolate, caramel, nutty or bittersweet flavours with more development. The goal is never simply a light, medium or dark roast, it is the roast that makes that particular coffee taste its best. The green coffee has to earn its place first. Every coffee on the menu scores 85 points or higher on the traditional SCA 100-point cupping scale, and the team treats the number as a starting point rather than the finish line, looking for lots that offer something distinctive in the cup: bright berry and floral notes, rich chocolate and nut character, deep caramel sweetness, or something completely unexpected. To make choosing easier the coffees are grouped by flavour rather than roast level: Berries and Floral, Nutty and Caramel Sugars, Chocolate and Nuts, Dark Roast, and a Reserve Line of limited coffees picked for unusual processing, origins or flavour. Everything is roasted in small batches in Prather, in the Sierra foothills east of Fresno, when orders come in, and the beans come from 19 of the roughly 70 countries in the coffee belt. Although the beans come from coffee-growing regions around the world, every batch of Valley View Ranch Coffee begins here in the Sierra foothills.
