Small family owned coffee roastery on the second floor of a century old mill building in downtown Nashua, New Hampshire, at the confluence of the Nashua and Merrimack rivers. King David roasts only specialty grade beans, by hand, on a traditional drum roaster with a 1 to 30 pound batch capacity, and roasts every origin on its own: single origins from Central and South America, Africa, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, roasted light, medium or dark depending on the bean, plus one three-bean espresso blend and three decafs. Bags are heat sealed with a one-way valve while the coffee is still warm. Private label bags for businesses and fundraising programs too. Visitors welcome, please call before you come.
King David Coffee Roasters is a small family owned roastery in historic Nashua, New Hampshire, in a 100 year old mill building at the confluence of the Nashua and Merrimack rivers. The roast master has been roasting specialty coffee, the top six percent of the crop, since 2000, on a traditional style drum roaster that takes anywhere from one to thirty pounds at a time. A sensitive computer helps control bean temperature, and the roaster checks colour, temperature and development by eye as the batch goes. The house rule is single origins only. All the beans arrive raw in 60 to 70 kilo bags, and each origin is roasted on its own, never blended to save money or to change a single origin's taste. The one exception is the espresso, a three-bean blend developed for an espresso bar in Boston that uses only the shop's regular specialty beans and no Robusta. Coffees are roasted light, medium or dark depending on the origin: light and medium to let the bean's own flavours through, dark for the oils, caramelisation and a fuller body. Sourcing goes down to the region, not just the country. The Costa Rica comes from Tarrazu, the highest of the country's growing regions, the Colombia from Huila, the Tanzania peaberry from the slopes of Kilimanjaro. After roasting, whole or ground, the coffee goes straight into a heat sealed bag with a one-way valve, or into a biodegradable bag, while it is still warm. The roastery also prints full colour private label bags for businesses, gifts and awards, and runs fundraising programs for local schools. The Hippo Press put the difference this way: it is the difference between wine from a box and the very best French Burgundy.
