Coffee Roasters in Northwest Territories

The Northwest Territories' specialty coffee scene is concentrated entirely in Yellowknife, with two active independent roasters serving a city whose extreme isolation, sub-Arctic winters, and tight-knit community make local coffee culture especially load-bearing. Javaroma Gourmet Coffee & Tea has been roasting in Yellowknife since 1996 and is one of the oldest continuously-operating northern Canadian specialty operations. Barren Ground Coffee (founded 2017) added a newer-generation operator focused on small-batch sourcing. Both import green coffee a long way and roast for a community that genuinely depends on them — the difference between commodity coffee and what these two produce is felt every day by the people who live and work in the territory through the winter dark.
