Roasted fresh in Salt Lake City, in small batches, shipped straight to you — no middleman shelf time, no grocery-store staleness.
Ben Martinez started Sumato in 2017, in Salt Lake City, after one too many mornings drinking whatever showed up in the office break room — the bag nobody remembers buying, brewed just to get through another meeting. He loved coffee. He just didn't love what "office coffee" had quietly become: stale, forgettable, an afterthought squeezed in between emails. So he started roasting coffee that was actually good, and naming it after the parts of work life everyone recognizes but nobody puts on a coffee bag — Side Hustle, Touch Base, Per My Last Email. Not because work is the enemy, but because if you're going to be in it — cubicle, home office, or a side hustle at midnight — the coffee that gets you through it should actually be worth drinking. Sumato's grown since that first batch, but the idea hasn't changed: good coffee, honestly made, for people still figuring out how to make the workday not suck.
