Nossa Familia Coffee
VerifiedProEst. 2004
About
Portland, Oregon roaster founded in 2004 by Brazilian native Augusto Carneiro, with direct, multi-generational ties to family coffee farms in Brazil. Known for Brazilian-forward blends, rotating single-origin microlots, and a strong giveback and sustainability program.
Our Story
Nossa Familia Coffee was founded by Augusto Carneiro, whose family has been growing coffee on their farm in Minas Gerais, Brazil since the 1890s. Augusto came to Portland to study and fell in love with the city's vibrant food and coffee culture. He saw an opportunity to bridge the gap between his family's farming heritage and the specialty coffee movement emerging in the Pacific Northwest. The name 'Nossa Familia' means 'Our Family' in Portuguese, and family is at the heart of everything they do. Augusto sources coffee directly from his family's farms and from partner cooperatives in Brazil, paying prices that support sustainable farming and community development. In 2013, Nossa Familia became the first coffee roaster in Oregon to earn B Corporation certification, formalizing their commitment to social and environmental responsibility. From their roastery and cafe in Portland's Central Eastside, Nossa Familia has grown into one of Oregon's most respected specialty roasters. Augusto's unique position — equally comfortable on the farm and behind the roaster — gives Nossa Familia an authenticity that few coffee companies can match. Every bag carries the story of four generations of coffee farming and a genuine commitment to making the supply chain work for everyone involved.
