St. Louis anchors Missouri's specialty coffee scene with Brevé Coffee and Shaw's Coffee serving the city's downtown, Central West End, and Soulard corridors. St. Louis's in-town roasters are joined by suburban operators across the metro, supplying a market that's grown into specialty coffee alongside the city's broader food scene reinvention. The St. Louis specialty culture tends toward smaller-batch operations, with operators running cafe-roastery hybrids and serving a customer base shaped by Washington University and Saint Louis University.
Columbia, home to the University of Missouri, has Shortwave Coffee. Jefferson City's Three Story Coffee anchors the state capital. Springfield brings Kingdom Coffee. Kansas City's Café Corazón anchors the Missouri side of the bi-state metro (most KC indie coffee falls under Kansas, but Café Corazón is on the Missouri side). Lee's Summit's Post Coffee Company extends KC's Missouri footprint. Raytown brings Benetti's Coffee Experience.
Beyond the major metros, Missouri's coffee scene reaches into smaller cities along the river corridors. St. Joseph has Hazels Gourmet Coffee & Tea. Glasgow's River Brew Coffee Co. operates along the Missouri River. Louisiana's Twin Pikes Roastery covers the Mississippi River corridor in northeastern Missouri. The 114 active independent Missouri roasters represent a state whose coffee culture is built across both the urban metros and the small river-town communities that have shaped Missouri's broader cultural identity for generations.
